Check Out Mariah Carey's First Stage Appearance Since Giving Birth
by Sean ComerIt was hardly needed, but Mariah Carey didn't mind carrying off a little false modesty Thursday night.
"I didn't realize this was a big deal," the fairly new mother of two said. The Grammy-collecting songbird was making her performing return before several hundred fans at New York's Gotham Hall - complete with touching up her makeup and swapping shoes mid-show without looking a bit out of place in a sleeveless, curve-hugging black dress.
One who'd spent the last year-plus or so living under a rock might not have guessed just watching her that she'd just delivered twins by C-section this past April. She even added that in a perfect world, son Moroccan would beat-box up a storm and daughter Monroe would diva it up right by her side.
She busted out some old favorites, including "Hero," "We Belong Together" and her cover of the Jackson 5's "I'll Be There." Carey performed as part of a bill dubbed "Plot Your Escape: Four Concerts. Countless Celebrities. One Epic Night" by promoter Caesars Entertainment. Diddy opened for Carey in New York, Lil' Wayne and Cee Lo rocked Los Angeles, Maroon 5 and Sarah Bareilles played in Chicago and a Mary J. Blige-Gavin DeGraw double bill rocked New Orleans - all simultaneously, all simulcast online.
"Catch me at my real show next time," Carey said closing her set, clearly indicating her best is yet to be back.
Check out the video below. Admit it, even as a mom, she's still Mariah.
