Charlize Theron and Sean Penn Break Off Their Engagement

Sometimes, celebrity couples break up and we're all very sad about it. When Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield called it quits, for example, the general public had an attitude of "aww, that's too bad, I liked them" until they reportedly got back together again.

However, in the case of possible dickhead Charlize Theron and confirmed dickhead Senn Penn, we feel nothing but joy in reporting that their engagement has been called off.

That's according to Us Weekly, as the magazine reports that Theron and Penn split after this year's Cannes festival in France, ending their 18-month relationship and 6-month engagement (assuming they were in fact engaged, as there was no ring and the couple never confirmed it).

This can only be good news for Theron, since Penn allegedly beat Madonna with a baseball bat back when they dated. We questioned Theron's character after her SoulCycle kerfuffle with Tia Mowry, but we're back on her side officially after the glorious "Mad Max: Fury Road." Thus, we applaud her Furiosa-esque escape from this undoubtedly toxic relationship.

Hopefully Theron can move on and find someone who is less than 14 years older than her, hasn't been married twice already, doesn't have a history of abuse, and isn't also just kind of a gross, smug jerk. Best of luck, Charlize.
