Charlie Sheen Wanted For Part In 'Scary Movie 5'

With Charlie Sheen looking once more dialed into his career, the moment's biggest counter-culture icon has been targeted for an appearance in the return of the "Scary Movie" franchise.

Sheen, whose newly contrite and peaceable demeanor toward Warner Bros. and the cast and crew of "Two and a Half Men" was a big story unto itself without Sheen even being nominated this year, has reportedly been targeted by Dimension for a role in the developing "Scary Movie 5," according to Entertainment Weekly.

If he does, it would mark his third bow on the franchise's behalf, with the former "Wall Street," "Platoon" and "Major League" star having made cameos in "Scary Movie 3" and "Scary Movie 4" as Tom Logan. Nothing has surfaced indicating what Sheen's proposed "Scary Movie 5" role would be, EW said, since Logan has been killed off.

Or as EW put it, "That character's as dead as Charlie Harper."

Ba-zing.

As EW also rightly pointed out, though, how far will Sheen willingly extend his "Winning Warlock of Tiger Blood" nonsense, now that's he's very publicly cooled his jets and even admitted that his act got way out of hand?

There's a great point made about how Neil Patrick Harris ended up doing the opposite by going against type in "Harold And Kumar Go To White Castle" and making himself arguably that movie's highlight. If Sheen can't do the same, he risks casting aside reinventing himself like the former "Doogie Howser" has successfully done, and instead of reminding the world that he's actually turned in great work in some memorable, critically acclaimed roles, just making himself the next Gary Coleman or Jimmie Walker: a walking catchphrase . . . or worse, punchline. Still, he must know what the people will expect if he does the movie.

Ask yourself, Mr. Sheen: is it really worth the paycheck to tell the joke one time too many?
