Celebrity Hacker Gets Sentenced
by Shannon KeirnanSome angry stars are getting justice as the man who invaded their privacy in 2011 gets his sentence.
Christopher Chaney, 36, hacked into the emails and cell phones of over 50 celebrities, including Scarlett Johansson, Christina Aguilera, Mila Kunis, Renee Olstead, Jessica Alba, Demi Lovato, Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez, Ali Larter, and Busy Phillips.
Scarlett Johansson was especially verbal after Chaney released naked photos of her last year. When the photos (intended for then-hubby Ryan Reynolds) were released she sent out immediate cease and desist orders, and to help with Chaney’s sentencing, the “Avengers” star sent in a videotaped statement to the court, admitting she was “truly humiliated and embarrassed” by the “perverted and reprehensible” act.
Aguilera also lent her testimony in a taped statement, where she told the court, "That feeling of security can never be given back and there is no compensation that can restore the feeling one has from such a large invasion of privacy."
“The Secret Life of the American Teenager” star Renee Olstead went to court in person, and wept when she told the jury "I just really hope this doesn't happen to someone else. You can lose everything because of the actions of a stranger."
Chaney was sentenced to ten years in prison. He will also need to pay $66,179 in restitution to his victims.
Chaney was arrested in October. He pleaded guilty to nine felony counts which included unauthorized computer access and wiretapping.
Hopefully these stars and others will be sleeping a little easier now. And being more selective about the naked pictures they store on their electronic devices…
