'The Voice' Host Cee Lo Green Thinks 'American Idol' and 'X Factor' Have 'Run Their Course'

'The Voice' Host Cee Lo Green Thinks 'American Idol' and 'X Factor' Have 'Run Their Course' You can tell that Cee Lo Green really believes "The Voice" will be different from "American Idol" and "The X Factor." If he didn't, he'd be insulting his own show.

Green, who had hits like "Crazy" with Gnarls Barkley and "F*** You" solo, was offered a gig as a judge for "The X Factor," Simon Cowell's British import and post-"Idol" project.

Green turned down the offer and opted to join "The Voice" instead: "I didn't know what made ['X Factor'] distinctive enough," said Green. "Quite honestly, I felt like 'American Idol' and these other entities had run their course."

If that's how Cee Lo sees it, then it's pretty clear that he thinks "The Voice" is different enough to stand on its own. There has been worry on all fronts (though nobody wants to show it) that the competing shows' audiences will cannibalize each other.

If that happens, though, who will come out on top? "American Idol" or "The Voice"? A few years back it would have been a ridiculous question to ask, but with many longtime fans growing a bit tired of "Idol" in its 10th season, could it potentially fall to "The Voice"?

If it does, it could be a few seasons before it happens. We'll see if "The Voice" can hang on that long.
