Catch a Sneak Peek at 'The Winds of Winter!' George R.R. Martin Posts an Excerpt from the Upcoming Book!
by Shannon Keirnan
April 12th is coming.
In just ten more days, we can finally return to enjoying (crying, screaming, and gasping over) our favorite HBO series, "Game of Thrones."
HBO certainly hasn't been shy about drumming up a frenzy of anticipation. Now the author of the series, George R.R. Martin, has joined in to tease fans.
Via his website, the popular author has posted a sneak peek at a chapter from the upcoming The Winds of Winter, the sixth book in the series A Song of Fire and Ice.
It was way back in 2011 when the fifth book hit the market, so fans have been chomping at the bit for Martin to finish Winds of Winter. Martin has announced that he will not be writing on the HBO series for season six, taking time to focus on finishing his series (there are two more books anticipated past Winds).
No publication date has yet been set for Winds of Winter, but perhaps the 6,707-word exerpt will tide you over?
If you haven't read the series, spoilers are ahead!
In the piece, we finally get another glimpse of Sansa, now known as Littlefinger's bastard Alayne, as she finally begins to come into her own. Under the tutelage of her fake father, Sansa/Alayne sets out to manipulate and charm Ser Harrold Hardyng, heir to the Erie, into marriage.
It's interesting to see Sansa, who has, let's face it, previously been tossed about in a very unfortunate tide of events, showing a sharper side as the bastard Alayne! But can we really picture her married to the acerbic Ser Harry?
Either way, no doubt it will be a long while before we learn Martin's true intentions for his character. Until then... at least we have television.
