Carla Gugino, Bruce Greenwood to Star in Stephen King's 'Gerald's Game'

A film adaptation of Stephen King's novel Gerald's Game was first announced two years ago, but this week we got news about the casting of the film's lead roles, as well as the news that the project has begun production. The format of the project - whether it will be a limited series or a feature film - and its expected premiere date on Netflix have not yet been released.

King's novel concerns the plight of a woman who, after a kinky game with her lover goes wrong, finds herself handcuffed to a bed, alone in a cabin in the remote Maine woods. During her ordeal, she tries to escape, deals with a horrifyingly hungry dog, and begins to hallucinate - or maybe they're not hallucinations - about a dark presence that's menacing her from the dark corners of the room.

Carla Gugino (Watchmen) will play the lead in the Netflix adaptation, and Bruce Greenwood (Star Trek Into Darkness) will play her unfortunate lover. The project will be directed by Mik Flanagan (Hush, Oculus). The project has been developing slowly, presumably because the plot of King's novel takes place primarily in the head of the lead character, making it a challenge to write and produce a film adaptation.
