'Captain America: The Winter Solider'... What Do We Know?
by Shannon KeirnanMarvel’s “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” has begun shooting… and Marvel let a few tidbits from the movie finally slip.
Here’s what we now know:
-The movie will take place in present day, following where we left off in last summer’s “The Avengers.”
-Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury will have significant roles, not just cameos. Cobie Smulders will also be returning to her “Avengers” role as Agent Maria Hill, along with Agent Jasper Sitwell.
-The enemy Captain America must battle is called The Winter Soldier…Spoiler: the result of a Soviet experiment on friend Bucky, who fell from a bridge in the first movie. Sebastian Stan has returned in the role.
-Robert Redford will play Nick’s Fury’s confidante Alexander Pierce, a former agent brought back into S.H.I.E.L.D. to help run the organization.
-Hayley Atwell, who starred as Peggy Carter (Captain America’s love interest) in the first flick, will make appearances… but most likely in flash-backs or in aged makeup. Toby Jones, who appeared as HYDRA scientist Amim Zola will also pop in.
-Captain’s love interest will be Agent 13, played by “Revenge” star Emily VanCamp. Spoiler: Real name Sharon Carter. Make the connection.
-Anthony Mackie will appear as Sam Wilson, also known as Falcon, a hero who flies and communicates with birds.
-Frank Grillo has been cast as Brock Rumlow, or bad-guy Crossbones, with Georges St-Pierre as Georges Batroc—a.k.a. Batroc the Leaper, a lethal kickboxer
“Captain America: The Winter Solider” comes out in April of next year.
