Cable Ratings: 'Rob & Chyna' Challenge 'Fear the Walking Dead'
by EG
There was good news this week for Fear The Walking Dead, which had seen its ratings declining steadily since the series' mid-season premiere. But that good news was tempered a bit by a strong challenge from some unassuming competition on another cable network.
This week's episode of FTWD drew 3.4 million total viewers and earned a 1.5 rating in the 18-49 age demographic. That was a big improvement over last week's 1.2 rating, which represented a series low mark. However, the bump up to a 1.5 ratings merely returns the series to the level of two weeks ago, which was, at the point, also a series low.
Perhaps more concerning was that Sunday night's number-two-ranked cable show was not all that far behind FTWD. E!'s Rob & Chyna, the latest reality-show installment in the Kardashian franchise came in second place for the night with numbers that were in the same league as those of FTWD. The debut episode of the Rob & Chyna scored a 1.1 rating and attracted 2 million total viewers.
The take-away from the night is the fact that FTWD is still flirting with series-low ratings, and it's feeling pressure from a reality-show spin-off (in which one of the highlights, apparently, was that its star farted in a car). That doesn't bode well for Fear the Walking Dead's aspirations of being part of the hottest franchise on TV.
