'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' Season 3, Episode 14: 'Karen Peralta' Recap

Amy is nervous, as she is finally going to meet Jake's mother for his birthday party. Jake assures her she will be fine.

Gina realizes she forgot to tell everyone about a team-building exercise Holt has arranged, wherein they are locked in a room with riddles to solve to get free. She's stuck with just her, Holt, Hitchcock, and Scully. They fudge and mess up their idiot ways through the riddles, solved with the help of Holt, who vows never again to be locked into a room with that group.

Rosa, Terry, and Charles go on a stakeout with body cams, but when Charles spills soup on himself, he goes to clean up. Their perp flees, and Rosa manages to take him down in a restaurant bathroom - where she finds Charles, completely nude. The footage from her body cam becomes important evidence, as it catches their perp tossing his drugs in the trash. It is watched very thoroughly, to Charles' mortification.

Karen Peralta has a surprise for Jake - his dad, Roger! Jake is shocked to see him. He's even more shocked when his mother explains that the two are dating each other again. He's certain that his father is up to no good and tries to talk sense into his mother. It doesn't work. She's convinced she knows everything bad he has done, and Jake's father insists that Jake convinced him to clean up his act last time they saw each other.

Jake tells Amy that his mom has no idea of all the secrets his dad is hiding. He's prepared to drop the bomb - that his dad slept with his mom's best friend, Sheila. He has Amy distract Karen and tells Roger he knows about Sheila and will tell everyone unless he leaves. He does, but Karen knows something is up. She says whatever he did can't be worse than the time he cheated on her with Sheila.

Jake finds out that his mom knew all the terrible things Roger did, and that Jake probably doesn't even know half of them. She's going into this with eyes wide open. Jake finds Roger and asks him to come back to the party, but threatens to throw him in jail forever if he ever hurts Karen again.

Karen approves of Amy, despite Amy's tendency toward being weird when she is nervous, and Amy is thrilled.
