'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' Season 2, Episode 22: 'The Chopper' Recap
by Shannon KeirnanA man named Mather has turned up dead. He was one of the Fulton Street Four, a gang who stole $21 million from an armored car depot. It's an epic case if someone is now after the money - which has never been found - and is picking off members. Jake is stoked, but Holt warns him to rein it in.
Another one of the Fulton Street Four turns up murdered, which excites Jake into surety that it is connected to the money. Unfortunately, now that the case is looking like a big deal, Wuntch will want to take the case and turn it over to someone else. Jake is determined that can't happen. They go to Wuntch, Holt willing for her to take over, but she is surprisingly fine with them on the case, and even offers them whatever resources they may need.
Holt decides she's letting them have to case because she's waiting for them to fail, and insists on joining.
Terry is hosting a field trip for a school he hopes his daughters can get into. He is determined to impress the admissions officer. Things are going great until he has to have Amy watch the students for a short time. Coached by Rosa, she entertains them by showing them all gruesome photographs. The school officer is horrified when she comes back. Amy, Gina, Rosa, and Terry point out how much the kids have learned, and Terry begs she not hold it against his daughters.
Jake, Charles, and Holt go to track down a suspect named Bludsoe, and find him hiding in terror from someone trying to murder him. It's Jake's big break... he can finally call in the "chopper" he has always dreamed of using for an epic case like this. They go off to track down the murderer D'Angelo, with Holt suspicious at every turn that Wuntch is playing him.
They get to break into a barn, thrilling Jake but find D'Angelo is dead. They HAVE been played - by Bludsoe, who is the real murderer. Worse, he is no longer in police custody. Holt of course is furious, but Jake points out that he's spending so much time worrying about Wuntch he's not really in the case. Holt realizes he is right, and they put their heads together.
Having figured out where Bludsoe has been hiding the money, they break in and find him.... and the 21 million.
They get all the prestige from the case that Jake could have hoped for... but Holt was right, it seems. Wuntch needed this opportunity to promote him to Head of NYPD Public Relations... a desk job.
