'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' Season 2, Episode 18: 'Captain Peralta' Recap

Peralta's dad is coming into town and the two are planning to get dinner, even though the two have been relatively estranged for six years. Charles is highly suspicious.

Holt offers Beyonce tickets to whoever can solve a brain teaser. It becomes competitive among Gina, Terry, Rosa, and Amy, and bets are made.

Jake gets dinner with his dad, an airline pilot. He tells Jake that when he was crossing back in from Canada, they found some prescription drugs in his bag, and he's being accused of smuggling.

Jake brings the case to Holt. They work out a short list of suspects. Jake flies to Quebec with his dad, but once they cross the border, Captain Peralta is arrested. Pills have been found at his apartment.

This eliminates most of the suspects Jake had in mind. He and Charles dress in pilot uniforms to get into the lounge, where they're going to try to grill Captain Peralta's mistress, but she's suspicious of them and has them kicked out.

Luckily Jake manages to swipe the spray bottle she's cleaning with, and runs the prints. They figure out that she found out that Captain Peralta was keeping her as a side piece, and framed him.

To celebrate, Captain Peralta offers to take everyone out for a drink. He doesn't show. Jake goes to his hotel and tells him he has always been a crappy father and letting him down. He tells him not to contact him until he's ready to be a better father.

Rosa and Gina have solved the brain teaser... by realizing that Holt doesn't know the answer either. His mentor asked him ages ago and it has been haunting him ever since.

At the bar celebration sans Captain Peralta, Captain Holt tells Jake he is proud of him.
