'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' Season 2, Episode 14: 'Defense Rests' Recap
by Shannon Keirnan
In the world of Charles and Gina: Gina is resentful toward Charles, because he has given in to his father's happiness and is refusing to help sabotage his relationship with Gina's mother. Amy, eager to utilize her binder on conflict management, steps in to mediate between the two. They decide that they will allow Gina to grill Charles' father, since she is worried about her mother, who has a bad track record with men. She interviews him, but is satisfied with his answers, and gives him her blessing to ask her mother to marry him.
In the world of Jake and Sophia, things aren't going as smoothly. Jake is totally infatuated with Sophia (even drops the l-word), but Sophia thinks that the relationship is too difficult given their respective jobs.
Determined to prove her wrong, Jake crashes one of her work events, determined to suck up to her boss and make it work. His Internet stalking pays off, and he hits it off, after a few tries, with Sophia's boss. This goes great until he finds him snorting cocaine in the bathroom and arrests him.
Sophia, angry that Jake misinterpreted her request for space, breaks up with him, and legally defends her employer. Jake is heartbroken.
Meanwhile, Holt's arch-nemesis, Wuntch, has a request for Holt. She is up for a promotion that will involve moving her to Boston. She asks for a recommendation. While torn, he talks it over with Diaz, and finally decides on giving her a good word. Bonus: he'll be rid of her. However it was a ploy - with Holt on her "side," she has the leverage to be promoted where she is, and stays in Brooklyn, rubbing her deception in his face.
