'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' Season 2, Episode 1: 'Undercover' Recap

Jake gives a speech at an Italian wedding reception, mentioning how he is a former cop. He hits it off with all the guests, but when he mentions "dry meatballs," all the other cops pour in. Jake puts up a fight as he is dragged out, and brought to the NYPD undercover van.

He greets Holt with a hug.

He returns to his usual domain after the undercover stint. Everyone greets him, happy to have him back. He asks to speak with Amy in private. He acknowledges leaving things weird with her. She tells him she is still with Teddy. Jake says that telling her he liked her was a mistake and he didn't mean it.

Terry continues a round of training, to Rosa's annoyance. He comes in as a "confused old woman" to report a crime, and she reluctantly takes his information. Amy and Rosa hash out the drill, happy to be free of it, but then Terry begins another one. They appeal to Holt to end the drills but he refuses.

Gina takes Charles aside and reminds him not to tell Jake that the two of them slept together. Charles doubts he can keep it secret.

Jake finds out that 15 of 16 perps are in custody, but one got away. Jake wants to go back undercover and see if he can track down "Freddie." Holt and the FBI don't think it's a good idea, but Jake decides to get back into the Mafia anyway.

Jake enlists Charles to help him. Jake goes to a bar to see Benny, who is happy to welcome him back. He gives him Freddy's girlfriend's address. Charles comes in to play his part of punching Jake, but since Jake has been met without suspicion, he tries to subtly call off the "fight." Charles misses the cue and punches Jake anyway.

Jake goes to meet Bianca, who brings him into the apartment but says Freddie has just left. She holds him at gunpoint, saying she knows he is the snitch. He clicks his car keys - the signal for Charles that he needs help - but ends up locking and unlocking the car, which Charles cannot escape from. Finally he gets free and goes to rescue Jake.

Holt finds Rosa, Amy, and Terry in a bouncy house, trying to entertain young "Timmy," and deflates it on them. When Terry and him speak after regarding the blunder, Holt informs him that there is going to be a new commisioner at the NYPD and they need to be prepared for anything.

After Jake tells Bianca about the many other women that Freddie is sleeping with, she lets them know that Freddie is heading to the airport, on his way to Barbados.

Jake and Charles go to stop the plane, but have missed it.

At his desk, Jake is depressed that Freddie got away. Charles coaxes him to go to his surprise party, where Holt tells Jake he is proud of him. Jake speaks with Amy and tells her that he actually did mean it when he said he liked her.

Gina is relieved that Charles didn't tell Jake about them sleeping together, and the nightmare is over. They sleep together again.
