'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' Recap: Season 3, Episode 21: 'Maximum Security'

The nine-nine has a lead on what to do about Figgis, who has a hit out on Adrian and a man in the FBI. Figgis' sister is serving in a maximum security prison in Texas. They need to send someone to blend into the rough environment.

Amy volunteers, but Holt wants Rosa. Amy is hurt that no one has faith in her ability to be tough.

Holt has another plan as well, to lure out the FBI agent. He wants to have a fake funeral for Adrian. He, Gina, and Terry forge all the documents of an official death for Adrian Pimento.

Rosa gets to wear a fake pregnancy belly for her undercover mission, as an excuse to talk to her "doctors" Jake and Charles. She gets put into the prison, but is instantly recognized as a cop by someone she arrested.

It's Amy's turn. Jake and Charles coach her on how to act. Since Rosa isn't in prison, Terry enlists her to be at the fake funeral and play the grieving fiancee. Meanwhile Amy seems to be blending in well at the prison, and plants the word that she can get contraband through her connection outside.

Amy runs into their target, Maura, but the plan backfires, because Maura is also running a contraband store and demands Amy back off. Jake and Charles call Amy in and discuss changing a plan, but Amy wants to stick to what they have. She needs to "step to" Maura or no one will respect her. However every time she interacts with Maura, Jake pulls her, worried she will be hurt. She agrees to lay low.

But she doesn't. She starts a fight with Maura. Jake runs and interferes, pulling her before she can get hurt. She is furious, certain he doesn't have faith in her, but he confesses he's the one who isn't tough enough for this assignment. He's too worried she will get into trouble. He decides to remove himself, but first he and Amy stage her beating him up to get her back on track.

It works. Maura approaches Amy and asks her to be on her crew.

Meanwhile, the funeral has turned up no suspects, but Rosa finally shows some emotion with her touching eulogy. Terry offers to be there for her however she needs, and that none of them will stop until they get Adrian back to her.
