'Broad City' Star Hannibal Burress Calls Bill Cosby a Rapist During Comedy Show
by Andy NeuenschwanderSomebody had to say it. Turns out that somebody was Hannibal Burress.
With Bill Cosby making a comeback of late, people have been digging up Cosby's old comedy routines, his quotes about black culture in America...and the many rape accusations against him.
In a comedy show in Philadelphia this week, comedian and "Broad City" star Hannibal Burress took the stage and took down Cosby for putting himself up as a role model for black youth whil he has rape accusations from 13 different women that have been unaddressed.
Here's Burress' bit:
"Thirteen? And it’s even worse because Bill Cosby has the fucking smuggest old black man public persona that I hate. Pull your pants up, black people. I was on TV in the ’80s. I can talk down to you because I had a successful sitcom. Yeah, but you raped women, Bill Cosby. So, brings you down a couple notches. I don’t curse on stage. Well, yeah, you’re a rapist, so, I’ll take you sayin’ lots of motherfuckers on Bill Cosby: Himself if you weren’t a rapist. …I want to just at least make it weird for you to watch Cosby Show reruns. …I’ve done this bit on stage, and people don’t believe. People think I’m making it up. …That shit is upsetting. If you didn’t know about it, trust me. You leave here and google ‘Bill Cosby rape.’ It’s not funny. That shit has more results than Hannibal Buress."
Granted, Cosby has not been found guilty of any of these accusations, and we have a legal system in which people are innocent until proven guilty. But accusations from 13 different women would give anyone pause, especially when the alleged drugging and sexual assault is said to have happened regularly from the 1970s to now.
Meanwhile, Cosby has been appearing on talk shows with the likes of Jimmy Fallon and Stephen Colbert without the slightest mention of any of this.
Cosby's reps have not responded to requests for comment.
