Bret Easton Ellis Banned from GLAAD Media Awards

Bret Easton Ellis has been banned from the GLAAD Media awards… and seems surprised.

Though the writer and director is gay, the gay community has apparently found many (many, many) of his Twitter posts offensive.

"As a gay man in a domestic partnership who plans to get married I'm sad to hear I've been banned by GLAAD from attending tomorrow's event," the “Canyons” director tweeted.

"GLAAD is supposedly 'furious' about my tweets. And I'm guessing not the ones concerning my boyfriend or how sexy I think Adam Driver is."

Ellis later added that the companion planning to bring him was told to ask Ellis not to tweet and/or go public with this rejection. Guess add “not taking instruction” to the list of reasons GLAAD hates him.

GLAAD vice president of communications Rich Ferraro responded to the statement:

"GLAAD spoke with the guest who was planning to bring Bret about some of Bret's recent remarks, which the gay community responded negatively to. We also asked for a time to sit down with Bret. They decided to replace Bret with a different guest and there has been no response to the offer of a meeting. We hope his tweets don't overshadow the high-profile allies and everyday LGBT people who will be onstage tonight advocating for equality in the Boy Scouts, marriage and across the country."

So what got the director into the hot seat? Maybe a few of these gems:

"I don't care how good an actor you are but being married to another man complicates things for playing CG… Okay I'll say it. Matt Bomer isn't right for Christian Grey because he is openly gay. He's great for other roles but this is too big a game."

"I kind of agree with Paris Hilton” (regarding a tape of their heiress saying that gay men are “the horniest people in the world” and Grindr users “probably have AIDS").

“If you think Modern Family has a progressive attitude about gayness then you're a retrograde tool. The fact that it's being lauded: a joke.”

“I like the idea of "Glee" but why is it that every time I watch an episode I feel like I've stepped into a puddle of HIV?”

…followed by:

“The Gay Fascist Middlebrow that got angry over the Glee tweet is the problem with the politically correct gay agenda. We are all different.”
