'Breaking Dawn' Special Effects Video Reveals More Green Screen Than You'd Think
by Andy NeuenschwanderThere are a lot of unbelievable things about "Twilight": people transform into werewolves, vampires play baseball and sparkle in the sun, Taylor Lautner emotes (zing!).
Most of these outlandish events are accomplished through special effects, but you might be surprised at how much more of the movie owes itself to CGI. Such as, say, the location of the Cullen house.
If you watched "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn" and thought to yourself, "wow, that house is in a really beautiful location," then the special effects team behind the movie deserve a pat on the back. In reality, there was nothing outside of the windows of that house. In fact, there wasn't even any glass.
This interesting little promotional video from SpinVFX, the company that did this background special effects work for "Breaking Dawn," shows the difference in how the scenes look before and after they got to it. You'll see that the backgrounds are all thanks to SpinVFX's work, and that includes the details down to the reflection in the glass of the windows.
So next time you watch the movie and you're jealous of the Cullen's beautiful estate in the woods, remember that it's really just nothing but neon green outside those windows.
