The 'Breaking Dawn: Part 2' Ending Revealed!
by Shannon KeirnanAttention Twihards.
While most of you saw “Breaking Dawn: Part 2” ages ago and are probably gearing up for round five or six, some of you haven’t seen the movie yet and in the hope of avoiding any angry e-mails, be aware that there are serious spoilers ahead regarding the much-anticipated twist ending.
So what was the big surprise?
“I wouldn't call it an alternate ending," writer Stephanie Meyer said. "The end was something… that had to be cracked and we sat there and hashed it out. In a way, I feel like it's kind of offscreen in the novel because we only see what Bella sees. This was just a way of making visual what some of the other characters might have been seeing."
Which means than rather than have a long and boring scene where the Cullens appeal to the Volturi, as they do in the novel, instead the new movie goes the blood-and-guts route to make it more visually exciting. The Cullen patriarch, Carlisle, gets his head ripped off. Dakota Fanning’s character Jane gets eaten by a wolf. A whole lot more vampires unexpectedly die in nasty ways.
Luckily the twist is that all of this is just a premonition from Alice in order to stop such a massacre… but it takes a while to pry your fingers out of the seat cushion and realize that.
“It does feel very surprising. I still, watching it, have that moment where I go, 'Oh! Oh! We did that, didn't we?! So definitely there's something new to see, but to me it doesn't seem like we're going hugely off the page at all.”
Did you like the “new” ending? Were you surprised, or did all the hype about an alternate finale let you down?
