'Breaking Bad' Casts New Role... And She Worked for Gus

'Breaking Bad' Casts New Role... And She Worked for Gus It looks as though "Breaking Bad" season 5 has a new character... and given her backstory, she might end up being a big help or big trouble for Walt and Jesse.

EW reports that Scottish actress Laura Fraser has been tapped to play the new character in the upcoming season, which premieres next month. Her character, Lydia, is a "former associate" of Walt (Bryan Cranston) and Jesse's (Aaron Paul) former boss, Gus Fring (Giancarlo Esposito).

That could mean good or bad things for Walt and Jesse. On the one hand, anyone who worked for Gus could be dangerous, considering how deadly Gus could be. On the other hand, if Lydia is willing to play nice, she could help Walt build a new empire, which seems to be his goal based on the most recent trailer.

EW does note that Lydia is said to be "nervous about her place in the world," so that could mean that she's looking for a new boss. She's just one of two potential allies or enemies in the new season, as "Friday Night Lights" star Jesse Plemons has also been cast in an ambiguous role.

Make sure you catch the season 5 premiere of "Breaking Bad" on July 15 on AMC.
