Bravo Pulls the Plug on 'The Real Housewives of D.C.' - What Happened?

Sorry D.C. - your "Real Housewives" just don't cut the mustard.

Bravo has officially pulled the plug on "The Real Housewives of D.C." Andy Cohen, Bravo’s executive vice president of original programming and development, told The Washington Post “we had an amazing season and we told stories that were unique to any other in the franchise. I wish all our DC Wives the best and hope to work with them again in another capacity.”

Cast members were contacted this week to let them know the show would not be renewed for a second season, the first "Real Housewives" show to receive such a dubious distinction.

What killed the show? The short story is ratings. The D.C.-based "Real Housewives" show started strong with 1.4 million viewers for its first episode, but simply couldn't hold a candle to "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills," who were able to draw in viewers and smash ratings with a distinctly louder brand of catty housewiving.

The dumb answer comes from media whore Michaele Salahi, who told People that she was the reason the show wasn't renewed.

"The other women didn't want me back on the show, and [Bravo executive] Andy [Cohen] stood his ground and said there wouldn't be a show without me on it. I'm grateful to him for that."

Whatever you're sellin', Michaele, we ain't buyin' it.

If you ask us, Cohen seems to be (smartly) taking steps to avoid spreading the peanut butter and completely diluting the "Real Housewives" brand  - rendering it meaningless due to sheer audience exhaustion (which is what he might consider doing with the "Top Chef" brand - we love ya guys but it's getting out of hand).

As we reported two weeks ago, the Bravo mastermind told OK Magazine! that there will be no more new locations to come for the show. “I really feel like we’re done,” Cohen said. “Yeah.”

While Bravo may be cutting ties with Mary Amos, Lynda Erkiletian, Stacie Turner and media prankster Michelle Salahi, it appears they will continue their relationship with Cat Ommanney.

"Cat is booked on our April 28th 'Watch What Happens Live' Royal Wedding Spectacular," Cohen told the Washington Post.

Cohen also mentioned that Bravo will continue to work with Half Yard productions, the D.C. area company that produced "The Real Housewives of D.C.," which sounds potentially spin-offy to us.
