On Borrowed Time?: 'Dads' and 'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' Get Full Seasons
by EGViewers didn't have much of a chance to become fans of "Lucky 7" or "We Are Men"—both of those series were cancelled after airing just two episodes—so chances are that not all that many people were disappointed when they were axed. Other under-performing series are hanging longer, and some of them are getting extended commitments from their networks, so their disappointment potential is growing.
This week, Fox announced that it's ordering a full season of "Dads," the irreverent comedy starring Seth Green and Giovanni Ribisi, despite the fact that the series is the weakest link in the network's Tuesday-night line-up and is, in fact, Fox's lowest rated scripted series. The backorder means that "Dads" will be around until the spring, but fans should beware; if its performance doesn't improve, it's unlikely to come back next season.
Another new Fox series, "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" has also received a full-season order, and it is also on shaky ground, although it's not nearly as precarious as "Dads." "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" will also look for a boost when it airs alongside "New Girl" after the Super Bowl in February; if all goes well, it could survive to see season two.
Fans of "Sleepy Hollow" have nothing to worry about, however. That series is easily Fox's top freshman performer, and it has already received a renewal notice for next season.
