Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds Have Chosen a Name for their Baby Girl
by Andy Neuenschwander
Celebrities have a long history of choosing weird names for their kids. Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin famously went with "Apple," while Jessica Simpson opted for "Ace Knute" for her baby boy.
Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds almost bucked the trend. Almost. But while they chose a very normal boy's name that no one would ever be made fun of for, they gave that very normal boy's name to their baby girl.
Blake and Ryan have named their baby girl "James."
We're not trying to act like we have a problem with making names more unisex. The less we can make certain things in this gendered, the better. But in practical terms, James Lively-Reynolds faces a lifetime of having to answer solicitor calls and hear "Is Mr. James Lively-Reynolds there?" or having teachers act baffled when they call roll.
At the very least, James probably faces some mockery in grade school.
The name is salvageable, though: "Jaime" is a serviceable option. Also, you can't really put a lot of blame on a girl named Blake.
