'Blade Runner 2' Adds New Cast Members

Amid all the unasked-for sequels coming out of Hollywood these days, the upcoming sequel to 1982's Blade Runner stands out as a follow up that fans of the original are very much looking forward to. This week, the movie's producers announced two new additions to a cast that already is filled with very promising actors.

The two new cast members are David Dastmalchian and Hiam Abbass. Dastmalchian will be familiar to fans of Marvel's Ant-Man, in which he played Scott Lang's roommate Kurt. He also played a key role in the 2013 thriller Prisoners with Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal.

Abbass is less well known to American audiences, but she appeared in 2014's Exodus: Gods and Kings.

The roles that Dastmalchian and Abbass will play have not been specified.

The Blade Runner 2 cast already includes Harrison Ford in the role he played in the original, along with Ryan Gosling and Robin Wright in new roles. Ford plays Rick Deckard, a detective determined to track down renegade androids masquerading as humans. It's expected that Ford's role will be in support of Gosling's lead in the sequel.

Blade Runner 2 is scheduled for release in October of 2017.
