'Black Panther' Sets New Marvel Record
by EG
The release of Black Panther, the next film in the Marvel universe, is still a few weeks away, but fans can't wait. Pre-release tickets are selling faster than those of any other Marvel movie, including Captain America: Civil, the previously most-anticipated Marvel movie.
Marvel Studios’ Black Panther won’t reach theaters until next month, but Ryan Coogler’s superhero movie has already broken a record for the studio. Ticket site Fandango is reporting that it is the best-selling Marvel Cinematic Universe movie in terms of presales after its first 24 hours.
The movie opened for advance ticket sales at the start of the week, and has already overtaken previous top-seller Captain America: Civil War (the movie that, of course, introduced Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa, the Black Panther, to the MCU in the first place).
“Black Panther is riding an incredible wave of momentum right now,” Fandango Editor Erik Davis said in a statement. “It’s one of the biggest and most anticipated movies to ever open in the month of February, and its trailers have electrified the Internet. Tickets have been going fast ever since presales started on Fandango late Monday.”
The movie, which features Lupita Nyong’o and Michael B. Jordan alongside Boseman, has been eagerly anticipated since its announcement.
