Bill Cosby Made a Rape Joke in His Latest Live Show
by Andy Neuenschwander
Here's a tip: If you're facing rape allegations from multiple women, try not to make rape jokes at your stand-up shows. It won't help your case.
Bill Cosby, who has been accused of rape by more than a dozen women at this point, took the stage at a live show in Canada and was reportedly faced with a heckler. This heckler, a woman, offered Cosby a drink, presumably in reference to the allegations that he drugged his victims through spiked alcoholic beverages.
According to people at the show, Cosby then responded by saying, "You have to be careful drinking around me."
At that point, the audience let out an audible gasp, but that reaction quickly turned to cheers and applause. The woman left the theater, reportedly of her own volition and not because she was removed by security.
Even more shocking than the idea that Cosby would make that joke in the first place is the fact that this is actually Cosby's first public acknowledgement of the rape allegations, outside of a vague and unapologetic statement from his attorney.
Just this week, three more women came forward and related their stories of being sexually abused by Cosby. On the other side, Phylicia Rashad, who played Claire Huxtable on "The Cosby Show," defended Cosby and said to "forget these women." Rashad later claimed that she was misquoted.
