Big Bang Wedding Wins the Night, Blindspot Draws a Crowd

It comes as no real surprise that the season premiere of The Big Bang Theory, which featured the long-awaited wedding of Penny and Leonard, struck ratings gold on Monday night, but it was less certain whether or not NBC's Blindspot would attract a large audience for its series debut. It did.

The season-opening episode of The Big Bang Theory won the night ratings-wise by drawing 18.2 million total viewers and earning a 4.7 rating in the valuable 18-49 age demographic. Those numbers easily bested The Voice, Dancing with the Stars and Gotham on the three other big networks. On the CW, Penn & Teller: Fool Us drew only 1.2 million total viewers and came in a distant last place. The show's lead-in also helped to boost the numbers for the debut of Life in Pieces, which immediately followed.

The night's other big news came in the 10 pm time slot, when the highly anticipated Blindspot debuted on NBC. The series' opening ratings certainly must have pleased the network. The episode drew 10.6 million total viewers and a 3.1 rating in the 18-49 group.

Over on Fox at 9 pm, the news wasn't as good. There, the debut of Minority Report attracted only 3.1 million total viewers and took second place in the time slot behind Scorpion on CBS.
