'Big Bang Theory' Star Jim Parsons to Star on Broadway

'Big Bang Theory' Star Jim Parsons to Star on Broadway We already know that "The Big Bang Theory" star Jim Parsons can handle comedy: he has Emmy and Golden Globe awards for his role on the hit sitcom to prove it. But Parsons has some high drama in his sights as he heads to Broadway to appear in the Larry Kramer play "The Normal Heart."

The play is a semi-autobiographical piece written by Kramer about the HIV/AIDS crisis in New York City in the 1980's. In the past, names like Martin Sheen, Richard Dreyfuss, and Raul Esparza have played the lead role, which will be filled by Joe Mantello in this production. Parsons will be playing the role of Tommy Boatwright.

Parsons isn't the only TV star set to appear in the show: "Pushing Daisies" star Lee Pace (who played Ned in the sadly short-lived series) will also make his Broadway debut in the production and will play Bruce Niles. Movie actress Ellen Barkin ("Ocean's Thirteen") has also been cast.

The play also covers gay themes, which might be one of the reasons why Parsons (who came out last year) was drawn to the project...besides the tremendously promising cast, that is.

This should be a great role for the award-winning actor to sink his teeth into. Never fear, "Big Bang" fans: Parsons is sure to be back for next season's shooting schedule.
