The Big Bang Theory: Season 6, Episode 23: 'The Love Spell Potential' Recap
by Zack Wells“The Big Bang Theory”, season 6, episode 23, “The Love Spell Potential”
The girls (Amy, Penny, and Bernadette) prepare for their trip to Vegas, while the boys decide to have a night of playing Dungeons and Dragons.
Sheldon unveils his new set of dice, Leonard unveils his new inhaler, and Raj unveils his new playing piece. They are excited for their impending adventure, led by Dungeon Master Howard. Raj mentions that his semi-girlfriend Lucy was busy, so that’s the only reason he can stay. The guys ask him how he can even talk to her, since he has selective mutism around females. He says that will sometimes sit on the phone for 3 minutes of silence.
Sheldon expresses his concern of having Howard as a Dungeon Master, rather than the usual Leonard, but they convince him that sometimes change is good. As Howard begins to tell the narrative of their game, impersonating various celebrities, Sheldon realizes that Howard is much better than Leonard ever was.
Just as the game is beginning, Raj gets a text from Lucy, saying she’s not busy anymore. The boys protest, saying they need his character. Instead, Raj has his character commit suicide, and he runs off to be with his woman. Howard compensates by creating a ghost Raj to aid the players.
At a bar, Raj meets Lucy for their impromptu date. Lucy admits she was so nervous, that she put deodorant all over her body, so she fears she might start sweating out of her head. She’s trying to push herself to do things out of her comfort zone, like telling her hairdresser that she doesn’t like bangs. Raj asks her what else she’s scared of doing, and she says it’s between sending food back in a restaurant and saying no to door-to-door magazine salesmen.
In the apartment, the D&D campaign continues when the girls arrive. They say that Amy got taken out of line by TSA, and as she got a pat down, she elbowed the agent in the nose for getting too handsy, so they’re on the no-fly list. Amy apologizes, but Penny reassured her that she lived the Vegas experience; getting groped, losing money, and feeling shame. She goes to leave, but Leonard invites the girls to play D&D with them.
To cope with playing, Penny whips up a batch of “magic potion” (booze) to ease the embarrassment. She turns the game into a version of craps, and eventually begins having fun with the help of the potion.
On their date, Lucy points out that her food doesn’t taste right. Raj urges her to send it back, and he even calls the waiter over. But she freezes up when the waiter arrives. She excuses herself to go to the bathroom. In the bathroom, she climbs out the window (again), but realizes that she’s now stuck outside in a gated area. She calls Raj for help.
Raj comes outside and finds her caged in. She explains that he pushed her too much, and that’s why she ran. Raj apologizes and says that he really likes her, even with all of her emotional problems. They share a kiss through the fence. She breaks the kiss to say that she’s starting to sweat through her head.
In the apartment, the game is coming to an end. Bernadette compliments Howard on his dungeon master skills, and Howard says he has a special after game quest for them when they get home. Sheldon says that it sounds fun, but Bernadette has to explain to him that they mean sex, so he retracts his statement. Penny, filled with magic potion, suggests that Sheldon and Amy’s game characters should “do it”, since they’ll never do it in real life. Bernadette casts a love spell on their characters, and rolls successfully, and they fall in love.
When asked what she was going to do, Amy gets upset and walks away, locking herself in Sheldon’s bedroom. Sheldon comes in to see if she’s okay… only because everyone forced him to. Amy explains that all their friends think their relationship is a joke, but Sheldon disagrees. She asks him if they are ever going to have an intimate relationship, and he says that they can’t rule it out.
He tells her that their relationship as it sits is very intimate, but Amy says that she wants more. Sheldon points out that they are in bed together, and it only took three years. Amy suggests they go back to their friends, but Sheldon says they should finish acting out the love spell put on their characters. He grabs a pair of dice, and the two of them walk through their actions, including removing armor, and erotic caressing.
Leonard and Penny knock, seeing if they’re okay. Amy frantically sends them away, as their little game was just getting good.
