Best of: 'Emmy' Fashion!
by Shannon KeirnanAh, the "Emmy" awards. The perfect opportunity to admire a lot of pretty people who make way more money than the rest of us ever will. Money they can justify spending on these lush, gorgeous gowns. So who put their money to the best use this year (or borrowed from the best designer)?
Be sure to read our "Emmy Fashion Fails" if you haven't!
Here are my top 10 nominees:
1) Tina Fey, in Vivienne Westwood. The rich plum goes great with her skin tone, and the little embelishment on the bust is interesting without being distracting. And while Fey is standing like those shoes are hurting, and appears to be holding as a clutch what might be a large iPod of some kind, she looks like she's in amazing shape, her jewelry is pretty but not too flashy, and she is class all the way.
2) Julia Louise-Dryfus, in Vera Wang. Love, love that deep color with her dark hair, and the little pops of blue from her jewelry. The dress shape is attractive and modern without being a distraction from the lady's serious curves.
3) Jessica Pare in custom Jason Wu. I love everything about this. Pare looks classy with a hint of old Hollywood in the simplicity and in her hair, especially with those great red lips. The lips and the ring are great at drawing the eye, but the elegant cut of the dress, with those dramatic black accents, don't bore me either.
4) Kelly Osbourne in Zac Posen. I could probably do without the matchy-match hair and lipstick, but hey, she's Kelly Osbourne. I'm willing to overlook the fact that her teeth are either unfortunately colored by the lipstick or reflecting it back in a bad way, because that dress is stunning. Osbourne looks amazing in it too--she's clearly been working hard on that body, and she's turned into a bit of a bombshell.
5) Kat Dennings, in J. Mendel. The color of this dress, again, awesome. Love all these autumn tones! And Dennings looks beautiful with her fair skin and dark lips, and that great natural-looking hair. The gold cuff sets off the color, although those nails are a little distracting. She would also look a little more elegant if she stood up straight and lost the slouch, but I get the sense that that cleavage is a wardrobe malfunction waiting to happen, so there might be method to it. Also, she's Kat Dennings.
6) Padma Lakshmi, in Monique Lhuillier. Looks like she jumped on the fall-colored bus this year, and not many other ladies could pull off that exact shade of orange. The dress is simple but striking, and with her natural hair and make-up, she looks fantastic in it.
7) Giuliana Rancic in Romona Keveza. Another simple dress, but those angles give the eye something to look at, and Rancic also draws attention to her amazing gams. Hard to tell the woman just had a baby!
8) Ginnifer Goodwin in Monique Lhuillier. Orange is just rocking it on the carpet tonight. This dress is amazing-- it's different, it's flattering, it's... orange. Goodwin looks striking. Maybe the pumps are a bit too much of the same color, but other than that, I have zero complaints about this outfit.
9) Jane Levy in Pamella Roland. The color of this dress makes it. The cut isn't anything too new, although the sleeves and belt look beautiful on the pale Levy. Her hair, jewelry and make-up are simple too, letting that shocking blue do its work, and do it well when catching our attention.
10) Morena Baccarin. This grey number is different, that's for sure. I don't think a lot of ladies could pull this one off. The ruffles are unusual, the cut could be dangerous... but the slim Baccarin wears it like she's doing it a favor.
