'Behind the Candelabra' Trailer: Matt Damon and Michael Douglas Love, Fight, and Play

In the full-length trailer that can only be described with a wink as “fabulous,” feast your eyes on glitter, fur, and champagne decadence  guilds an emotionally charged, nuanced story about love and success.

Michael Douglas is Liberace in “Behind the Candelabra,” playing the flamboyant, shiny-loving iconic pianist with fluffy perfection.

Based on the novel by Scott Thorson, which follows the 6-year relationship between himself and Liberace, "We Bought a Zoo" actor Matt Damon (as Thornson) tugs at hearts in the trailer as we watch him change from boyish to broken.

“I’ll do whatever you want,” the young, naïve Thornson tells the older Liberace, who takes him under his wing and gives him a job.

“I want to be everything to you, Scott. I want to be father, brother, lover, best friend.”

Things don’t seem to be all bubbles and sparkles; however. Though the trailer doesn’t delve too deeply into any plot, it certainly promises to go much further into the relationship dynamics between the two.

“Why would a grown man want to adopt another grown man?” asks a voice.

“So we can be family,” Thornson answers in a heartbreaking, innocent moment.

With appearances by Dan Aykroyd, a tight-faced Rob Lowe, and an aging, staid Debbie Reynolds, HBO has certainly brought in the big guns for its biopic. With Steven Soderbergh directing, can things possibly go wrong?

“I don’t even have my own face!” screams Thornson as the lifestyle of flashy cars and lights into which he has been dragged gives way to dark, heated moments of jealousy, drugs, and anger.

"Behind the Candelabra" premieres Sunday, May 26, at 9 p.m. ET on HBO. Will you be watching?
