Beetlejuice 2 Not Ready to Go After All
by EG
The feelings of Beetlejuice fans were toyed with once again this week when ShowbizSpy reported that director Tim Burton had confirmed that stars Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder had signed on for a sequel to the 1988 horror comedy. Further, the report claimed that Burton had a completed script and was merely waiting for production on the project to start. It was welcome news to fans who've been hearing rumors of a sequel for years, but it turns out that the report was just another unfounded rumor.
In a follow-up report, MTV claims to have a definitive statement from Burton's representative that says Burton did not give confirmation of the project to ShowbizSpy and that the movie is not actually in development. It's yet another let down in a long series of them, the most famous of which came from Ryder herself, when last year she said that she was eager to reprise her role as Lydia and that Burton was open to the idea of a sequel, too.
Burton is currently finishing up his adaptation of Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, and he's been tapped to direct a live-action remake of Disney's Dumbo which is due out sometime in the not-too-distant future. Ryder is currently working on the Netflix original drama Stranger Things, which will debut in July of 2016.
