Can 'Breaking Dawn' Beat Harry Potter on Opening Night?

Given the absolute madness at Tent City outside of the Hollywood premiere of "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn," and the fact that thousands of theaters have already sold out for tonight's midnight screenings of the latest "Twilight" installment, there's no question it's going to be an all-out smash.

But just how big will it be? Should the Boy Wizard be worried?

Box office pundits are saying both yes and no. There's no question that the all-time 12 a.m. movie record of $43.5 million for "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2" could definitely be in jeopardy, based on "Twilight" fans' suspicious tendency to like to stay up late.

And the opening day take is currently on the way to hit $140 million in box office revenue, though the studio is forecasting a more conservative $125 million (guess they've seen the "Entourage" episode about "the Spiderman numbers").

So even if pundits are right, can "Breaking Dawn" match the single day record of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2"? It's possible, but pundits say it's unlikely.

According to The Wrap, "Breaking Dawn's" projections fall short of the $169 million all-time record set by "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2" last summer, but should be roughly in line with the franchise's highest grossing opener, the $140 million posted by 2009's 'New Moon.'"

Regardless of the one-day and total sales figures, "Breaking Dawn" will be a massively profitable film.

According to The Wrap, the movie cost $127.5 million to make, and the studio has already mitigated those costs with around $90 million in foreign pre-sales. Do the math and that equals a whole lot of shirtless Taylor Lautner posters.

Lucky enough for all you Twi-Hards out there, once you've seen this one, that means you can definitely look forward to "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 2." We'll let you know when we get the trailer for that one.
