'Batman vs. Superman' Casts Controversial Wonder Woman
by EGWe found out this week that Zack Snyder's upcoming sequel to "Man of Steel" won't just feature a clash between Superman and Batman. The film will feature Wonder Woman as well, and this week the movie's director revealed his choice of actress to play the role.
Israeli-born Gal Gadot will play the Amazonian princess, reportedly winning the role over Elodie Yung ("G.I. Joe: Retaliation") and Olga Kurylenko ("Oblivion"). Gadot has appeared in the past three "Fast & Furious" films, and she represented Israel in the 2004 Miss Universe pageant.
"Wonder Woman is arguably one of the most powerful female characters of all time and a fan favorite in the DC Universe," said Snyder. "Not only is Gal an amazing actress, but she also has that magical quality that makes her perfect for the role. We look forward to audiences discovering Gal in the first feature film incarnation of this beloved character."
The film's casting had already sparked angry responses from fans when Ben Affleck was picked to play the role of Batman, and Gadot's casting is also receiving, at best, a lukewarm reaction from potential viewers. The principal criticism seems to be Gadot's slight stature, which many fans see as an imperfect fit for the character.
