A&E has ordered a second season of the 1960’s “Pyscho”-based thriller, “Bates Motel.”
The show, which stars Freddie Highmore as the confused Norman Bates and Vera Farmiga as his mother (similarly named Norma) has another 10 episodes in the works after its first season premiered to decent ratings and reviews.
Only three seasons have thus far aired, but the premiere brought in 4.5 million viewers, which made it the highest-rated drama debut in the key demographics in A&E's history.
“‘Bates Motel’ has garnered critical acclaim and a loyal audience in its first few weeks,” said Bob DeBitetto, president and GM of A&E."With superb writing and exceptional acting, led by the critically acclaimed performances of Vera Farmiga and Freddie Highmore, we're incredibly excited to see where Carlton and Kerry take Norma and Norman Bates next.”
The show, which is executive produced by Carlton Cuse and Kerry Ehrin, follows Norma and Norman through their twisted relationship as the two leave their life behind after death of Norma’s husband. Norma buys a motel in a coastal town named White Pine Bay, where the two struggle to conceal their secrets as they learn the town isn’t quite what it seems to be.
The show also stars Max Thieriot of “Disconnect,” Olivia Cooke of “Blackout,” Nicola Peltz of “The Last Airbender” and Nestor Carbonell of “The Dark Knight Rises.”
