Aziz Ansari Article Writer is Now Working for Weed Website

After she faced criticism for her reporting on a story that derailed comedian Aziz Ansari's career and threatened to do the same for the burgeoning #MeToo movement, writer Katie Way was defiant. She attacked the physical appearance and professional skills of a female journalist who criticized her, and then bragged about her own professional achievements, writing "I'm 22 and so far, not too shabby!" Where is Katie now? Read on for details.

What a difference a year makes.

On the very day that Aziz Ansari announced his return to the national stage, 11 months after a controversial story was published about him, the woman who wrote that story also announced that she has found a new job with Cannabis Now magazine.

In January, Katie Way — then a staffer with babe.net — published a woman’s anonymous account of a date with Ansari that went badly wrong.

Some readers interpreted the events she described as Ansari’s clumsy advances; others considered his behavior to be sexual misconduct (at the time Ansari said that he believed the encounter to be entirely consensual).

But Way’s report also came under scrutiny, creating almost as much disagreement as Ansari’s alleged conduct. Way drew even more attention when she criticized HLN host Ashleigh Banfield — who called Way’s report “reckless” — calling her a “burgundy lipstick bad highlights second-wave feminist has-been.”

Way parted ways with babe.net in the spring, and — according to journalist-tracking site Muckrack — wrote one story for the Nation.

On Tuesday — the same day that Ansari, who had been laying low since the article ran, announced his nationwide “Road To Nowhere” tour — Way tweeted, “Today’s my first full day as a contributing editor for @CannabisNow — gonna be working on stories about cannabis culture, policy, business, the whole song and dance, really!”
