What?! Avril Lavigne Now Engaged to Chad Kroeger of Nickelback

Ladies and gentlemen, sometimes a news story comes out of left field, and you think, "how the heck did I miss that one?" Other times, a news story comes up and you think, "oh god no... no please... never." This story is a marriage (no pun intended) between the two.

Avril Lavigne, Canadian pop-punk princess and divorcee of Sum 41 singer and weird-name-speller Deryck Whibley, is now engaged again to a new sweetheart. Bet there are some of you saying "aww," right? Well, here's the twist: she's engaged to Chad Kroeger, lead singer of Nickelback.

I'm willing to wager that most of those "awws" just turned to "eww."

Yes, apparently Avril is very much in love with Chad, making her one of a very small and exclusive group of people who actually like Nickelback. That's according to People, who says that the couple got friendly back in February when they worked together on a song for Lavigne's next album. Of course they fell madly in love, and now about six months later they're ready to get married. This will probably go well.

Kroeger, 37, proposed to Lavigne, 27, with a 14-carat diamond ring, reminding her and everyone else that Nickelback is wildly successful, against all odds.

Well, I wish the best for the couple. I really do. After all, we didn't hear much new music from Lavigne or Sum 41 during Lavigne's first marriage, so maybe that will happen here, too.
