'The Avengers' Gets Voted Most Overrated Film of The Year
by Shannon Keirnan“Avenger” fans, like “Twilight” fans, will probably be annoyed at this news…
“The Avengers” has been voted Most Overrated Film of 2012.
Ouch. Although “Twilight” still brings in the title of Worst Film… EVER. So that’s a big step up.
So what happened? In a poll by the Los Angeles Times, 2,600 voters gave “The Avengers” 85% of the votes. That’s a pretty considerable percentage.
What came in second?
Ridley Scott’s “Alien”-esque thriller, “Prometheus.”
Even writer/director Joss Whedon wasn’t apparently too thrilled with his film. Whedon said of the superhero flick:
"I don't think it's a perfect movie. I don't even think it's a great movie. I think it's a great time, and I'm proud of it, but for me, what was exciting is that people don't go to see a movie that many times unless it's pulling on something from within, unless there's a need there. That's very gratifying."
However, it still managed to take in more box-office proceeds than any other flick of the year.
The Jack Black film “Bernie,” on the plus side was voted most under-appreciated film of the year. If you’re not familiar with that one (is anyone?), here’s the synopsis:
“In small-town Texas, the local mortician strikes up a friendship with a wealthy widow, though when he kills her, he goes to great lengths to create the illusion that she's alive.”
Interesting.
What do you think of the vote? Are you on board, or would you throw your vote into another arena for Most Overrated Film of 2012? And did you like "Bernie??"
