Australian 'Captain America' Trailer Tweaks Tagline For Foreign Audiences

Well, sure, uber-patriotic source material was lending "Captain America: The First Avenger" a tough foreign sell in the first place. But that doesn't mean Marvel can't try to be accommodating.

Australia's first official trailer for the superhero precursor to 2012's team-up blockbuster "The Avengers" hit the Internet July 5, and let me tell YOU something, mister . . . . . it's really not that different from the one released domestically last month.

Where it's different, take note, though. It could become something interesting to watch as the film hits worldwide.

The trailer abandons the tagline, "Heroes are made in America" in favor of the more global "When evil rises, a hero will stand." It seems like a trifling difference, but consider the fact that the movie won't even bear the "Captain America" name officially in Russia or China. There, it will simply be called "The First Avenger."

My, how times change, though. The movie focuses strongly upon Captain America (Chris Evans) and his origins laying Uncle Sam's smack down largely upon Nazi foes, especially Red Skull (Hugo Weaving) amidst World War II. With Cold-War communist animosity having recency on its side staying fresh in younger generations' minds, it could be easy to miss the irony that Russia and China were both besieged during WWII by the Nazis and Japanese respectively.

Nowadays, though? Seems there are still places where Captain America is probably still more a symbol of the Western menace.
