Is Ashton Kutcher In 'jOBS' 'All Wrong?'
by Shannon KeirnanAshton Kutcher might have made himself sick on an all-fruit diet to slip into his character of Steve Jobs in “jOBS,” but that doesn’t mean he nailed it.
Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak wasn’t thrilled with the performances.
“Personalities are very wrong,” he said, after watching a clip from the movie, which stars Josh Gad as himself.
In an e-mail, he continued with his criticism.
“I never looked like a professional. We were both kids. Our relationship was so different than what was portrayed. I’m embarrassed, but if the movie is fun and entertaining, all the better.”
He added that “the lofty talk came much further down the line.”
Gad, who appears in “1600 Penn,” responded by reminding potential audiences that it is not a documentary film, but mean as an interpretation of real events, aiming to capture the feeling of what occurred.
The decision to cast Kutcher has been controversial. Some are calling it a disaster, while others are being more diplomatic. Justin Lowe of The Hollywood Reporter carefully says that Kutcher “faithfully recreates some of his character’s physical mannerisms” and does a “fair imitation of Jobs’ speaking style."
As for Kutcher himself, he calls the experience life changing.
He says for him the role, “changed my life and changed me as a person.”
Kutcher claims to have spent three months listening to audio files of Jobs, trying to get into the Apple co-founder’s head. During one interview, Kutcher teared up when he mentioned, “Steve believed it was possible to do something impossible.”
The film will be in theaters April 19, to (kind of) mark the 37th anniversary of the founding of Apple (the actual date Apple was incorporated was April 3rd, 1979).
