'Arrow'/'Flash' Spin-Off Casts Its Hawkgirl
by Andy Neuenschwander
Say hello to your new Hawkgirl!
The upcoming "The Flash"/"Arrow" spin-off, which as of yet doesn't have an official title, has cast Broadway actress Ciara Renee as the comic book superheroine.
Renee is still a relative unknown in the television industry, with her biggest credit thus far being a "Law& Order: SVU" guest spot. However, she's made a bit of a name for herself on Broadway, having performed in "Pippin" and "Big Fish." It's also not out of character for CW to take younger actors with few credits and put them in starring roles.
The version of Hawkgirl that the show uses will be Kendra Saunders, though it remains to be seen how close to the original comic book character she'll be. "The Flash" has been very faithful to its source material, while "Arrow" has modified a bit.
The spin-off will also feature characters familiar to comic book fans and fans of the two CW superhero shows alike: Firestorm, Atom, Captain Cold and Heat Wave will all be appearing on the show.
Hawkgirl will provide some major muscle to the superhero team (whatever team it ends up being): her powers include flight, super strength, improved reflexes and healing, and other abilities.
