'Arrow' Star Stephen Amell Confirms Casting Talks for '50 Shades of Grey'
by Shannon KeirnanDoes Stephen Amell know more than the rest of us about Universal’s upcoming “50 Shades of Grey” adaptation? The “Arrow” star admits he is in casting talks for the much-anticipated S&M flick, based on the novel by E.L. James, but remains vague on the details.
The actor posted a video on his Facebook page to address the rumors.
“I get questions about Christian Grey all the time,” he says. “That project is a long way off. I know this, because I had a meeting about it. A long way off. I mean, not that long, but not close. I wouldn't call it long, but I wouldn't call it close.”
While that’s not particularly descriptive, last fall Amell responded to casting rumors from a reporter, saying, "I mean if you think about it, it would be four movies, the last part being two parts. I don't even own a house yet. So I don't think that I'd be turning that down any time soon."
Four parts? It would seem Amell does have some inside knowledge of the project.
While he didn’t confirm which character he is in discussion for, it would be a fair assumption that the gorgeous Amell would be stepping in as billionaire Christian Grey, a role that “Vampire Diaries” star Ian Somerhalder had been “absolutely” interested in. Matt Bomer and Alexander Skarsgard have also had their share of attachment rumors.
Amell currently plays the title character on The CW’s popular “Arrow,” but he has also appeared in “Hung,” “Queer as Folk,” “New Girl,” “Private Practice,” and “Heartland.”
Do you think Amell would make the perfect Christian Grey?
