Arcade Fire Premieres Spike Jonze Flick 'Scenes from the Suburbs'

Arcade Fire Premieres Spike Jonze Flick 'Scenes from the Suburbs' Arcade Fire stirred up a viral phenomenon in November 2010 with their interactive music video “The Suburbs.”

Hoping to generate similar excitement, the indie group lent their Grammy-winning music to the short film “Scenes From the Suburbs” which debuted at the SXSW festival, currently in Austin.

The film is co-written by director Spike Jonze and bandmates Win and Will Butler. The 30-minute film covers the fictional experience of suburban teens whose lives are interrupted by an ongoing threat of war.

The music video share scenes from the movie, while the film features several bits of Arcade Fire songs – including “Modern Man,” “Half Light,” “Suburban War,” “Month of May” and “The Suburbs.” Members of the band are also featured in cameos throughout the movie.

As Billboard reports, during a Q&A after the SXSW premiere, Will Butler said the purpose of the film "was not to create a straight-forward narrative based on the music.”

"We didn't set out to make a movie with a story," he said. "It was more like, 'Oh, we can make a movie with Spike Jonze? Let's put some of our music in that.'"
