Another 'Bachelor' Alum Apologizes for Racist Tweets

The Bachelor has another race-related controversy to deal with this week. Over the weekend, Bachelor alum Taylor Nolan was called out for racist and homophobic tweets she posted several years ago. Nolan offered the usual excuses in her apology: that the tweets were ancient history and they don't reflect who she is. Nolan is the latest in a long line of people associated with the Bachelor franchise who have been called out for racist behavior, and race-related controversies have even cost the show its long-time host. Bachelor Nation star Taylor Nolan issued a lengthy apology on Sunday after coming under fire for racist tweets from her past.

The posts, which date between 2011 and 2012, were resurfaced on Reddit and Twitter over the weekend after she called for “Bachelor” host Chris Harrison to be fired after he admitted to speaking “in a manner that perpetuates racism.”

Some of Nolan’s resurfaced tweets mock Indian, Asian and Jewish people, while others contain homophobic slurs and fat-shaming.

“My tweets from ten years ago are s–tty, they suck, they were wrong, and are hurtful,” the 27-year-old mental health counselor wrote alongside a 30-minute video, which has since been deleted. “I want to be clear that they don’t take away from the work I do today, they are literally how I got here to doing this work.

“To my fellow BIPOC community and the other folks who I harmed in those tweets, I see you, I hope you see me, we are in this together and I’m sorry I didn’t always stand with you,” she continued. “I’m sorry I centered my whiteness and the whiteness around me. I’m sorry I wasn’t better then, but I am here now and will always be.”

Nolan — whose mother is white and father is African-American — explained that she didn’t delete the tweets “because they’ve been a part of my ~journey~ since way before going ‘The Bachelor.'”

“I didn’t need anyone to call those things out to me to know they were wrong, I’ve been doing that work on my own for the last ten years and its the same work I do today and the same work I will continue doing for the rest of my life.”

She also clarified that she does not hold the same perspectives that she did in the tweets from 10 years ago and hoped people would take the time to watch the long video — although she later deleted it.
