Anne Meara Dies at 85

Anne Meara Dies at 85 Comedienne and writer Anne Meara passed away Saturday. She was 85.

The wife of Jerry Stiller and mother of Ben Stiller and sister Amy has appeared in many different shows and films, including "Sex and the City," "The King of Queens," "All My Children," and "Night at the Museum."

She and husband Stiller won awards for radio and television commercials they made together in the 1960's, and performed together as Stiller and Meara on "The Ed Sullivan Show."

"The two were married for 61 years and worked together almost as long," said a brief statement from the family, describing Stiller as Meara's "husband and partner in life."

Meara was also nominated twice for Emmy Awards for a supporting role on "Archie Bunker's Place." She received two other Emmy nods, and won a Writer's Guild Award for co-writing the 1983 television movie "The Other Woman."

She was considered a trailblazer for female comics, performing in a role that wasn't simply designed to play off and complement her male counterpart, but held its own. She also acted and wrote for the stage.

Ben Stiller's Twitter account had only a short simple message regarding the passing of his mother.

"Thank you so much for all the kind words about Anne. All of us in our family feel so lucky to have had her in our lives," he tweeted. Stiller is currently in Italy filming "Zoolander 2."

The entire family appeared in the original "Zoolander," which featured Stiller, his father, mother Meara, and wife Christine Taylor.

No details were released regarding how Meara passed.
