Anne Hathaway's 'Les Miserables' Diet

Anne Hathaway is definitely a committed actress, but did she go too far when it came to her “Les Miserables” diet?

The actress, who was already slender, and who had just spent 10 months training with martial arts and weights (and went vegan) for her role as Catwoman in “The Dark Knight Rises,” lost an additional 25 pounds to play the starving, TB-ridden Fantine in her upcoming flick.

Where that 25 pounds came from beats me, but if you’ve got a few to lose, I don’t recommend going the Hathaway approach.

The actress, in her Vogue profile, told the magazine that she ate “two thin squares of dried oatmeal paste a day” to drop those mystery pounds (let’s call them boobs).

This took care of the final 15. The other 10 she managed to lose before shooting began.

"I had to be obsessive about it– the idea was to look near death,” Hathaway explained.

“Looking back on the whole experience–and I don't judge it in any way— it was definitely a little nuts. It was definitely a break with reality, but I think that’s who Fantine is anyway. I was in such a state of deprivation– physical and emotional. When I got home, I couldn't react to the chaos of the world without being overwhelmed. It took me weeks till I felt like myself again.”

Hathaway also credits new husband Adam Shulman for helping her recover.

“He gets what I do and who I am and supports me in it, and that's pretty awesome.”

How Hathaway managed to perform long hours of shooting while surviving on two dry oatmeal wafers and still deliver an amazing performance defies human abilities.

Let’s hope that the lady has an Oscar in her future and a cheeseburger in her hand.

“Les Miserables” releases this Christmas.
