Anne Hathaway and Mindy Kaling Collaborating!

Mindy Kaling, whose new show “The Mindy Project” is raking in awesome reviews, has locked in “Les Miserables” star Anne Hathaway for a new comedy.

Chick flick genius? After the romantic comedy stinkers that have been hitting the theaters lately, it’s about time to churn out something that truly appeals to the ladies.

Kaling wrote the flick, entitled “The Low Self-Esteem of Lizzie Gillespie,” with “The Office” writer Brent  Forrester.

Kaling and Forrester as writers? Already on-board! Kaling and Forrester also as executive producers? I’m putting my heart in your hands with full trust.

Hathaway has already cast her name in for the lead role, and Kaling may possibly take a supporting character.

“Lizzie Gillespie” will follow “a woman whose low self-esteem leads her to date a bunch of losers.” Classic rom-com fodder. “But her life turns around when a hot piece of man meat starts pursuing her.” Yes, yes, we’ve heard this one before. But can it work again?

“It’s an interesting concept that twists the standard formula on its head.”

And, boom, there it is. The promise has been made. It's out there.

Honestly, at this point, I’m happy to follow anything Hathaway or Kaling does, and when the two are combined, I have a little girlgasm. Can it follow the comedic success of “Bridesmaids” while maintaining the culty fem love attached to “sad girl gets guy” flicks like “Bridget Jones’ Diary” or “She’s All That?”

There is hope.

You can catch Kaling making audiences giggle with her frank inner dialogue on FOX’s “The Mindy Project,” while Hathaway is gearing up to wow us with her performance as Fantine in this winter’s “Les Miserable.”
