'Batman: Year One' Voice Cast Includes 'Breaking Bad' Star Bryan Cranston, Eliza Dushku and More

There has been plenty of talk about "The Dark Knight Rises," but there's another Batman film with some buzz surrounding it...and it's animated!

"Batman: Year One" is being adapted from the Frank Miller comic book of the same name. Miller is famous for having written Sin City and 300, among other classic comics (that are now movies). The story follows a young Bruce Wayne as he takes on the identity of Batman and begins to form a working relationship with Lieutenant Gordon. Some elements of "Batman: Year One" inspired Christopher Nolan's "Batman Begins," in terms of how Wayne becomes Batman and in that Carmine Falcone is a major villain.

The voice cast includes Emmy winner Bryan Cranston ("Breaking Bad") as Gordon, Ben McKenzie ("Southland") as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Katee Sackhoff ("Battlestar Galactica") as Gotham detective Sarah Essen, and Eliza Dushku ("Dollhouse") as Catwoman.

If you're a doubter that animation is for you, here's an interesting fact: Cranston originally turned down the role without even bothering to read the script, assuming that animation and comic books were kid's stuff. But once he read the script for the _G-13 rated "Batman: Year One," he changed his tune: "I wasn't aware of this level of storytelling in animation," admitted Cranston.

He's right, too: "Batman: Year One" is one of the best Batman comics written to date, possibly second only to Frank Miller's other Batman creation "The Dark Knight Returns," which is a dream project for many comic book fans and comic book movie directors.

The animation, meanwhile, looks beautiful. Check out a screencap below of Bruce Wayne at his parents' graves:
