'Angry Birds' Sequel Coming in 2019

Sony is set for a second Angry Birds Movie.
Columbia Pictures and Rovio Entertainment announced that a sequel to last year's animated film will hit theaters on Sept. 20, 2019, a release date coinciding with the tenth anniversary of the original mobile gaming app. It will open ahead of Universal's animated adventure Everest and a Warner Bros. event film, both of which debut the following week.
Thurop Van Orman will make his feature directorial debut with the followup, as the flightless birds and scheming green piggies take their beef to the next level. John Rice, who served as lead storyboard artist on The Angry Birds Movie and directed the popular Angry Birds Hatchlings shorts, will co-direct. John Cohen will produce, and Peter Ackerman is writing the screenplay.
