Amy Schumer Mocks One Direction in New Music Video
by Andy Neuenschwander
Hey, remember when One Direction had a whole song about how girls should be beautiful but also shouldn't know that they're beautiful because that's what make them beautiful, at least to guys like them whose opinions are the only ones that matter?
Amy Schumer remembers, and she made a pretty great music video about it.
"Girl, You Don't Need Makeup" is a full-length music video based on one of Schumer's own sketches lampooning boy bands like One Direction for deceptively esteem-crushing songs like "What Makes You Beautiful." In it, she mocks the idea of "natural" beauty as sung about by boy bands, considering the look they really want requires hours of makeup.
This is one in a series of recent viral hits for Schumer, who also released a music video in her season opener called "Milk Milk Lemonade" that mocked how sexualized women's butts are in pop culture. Another sketch from the new season of "Inside Amy Schumer" had Schumer and Tiny Fey celebrating Julia Louis-Dreyfus' "last f--kable day," after which point she would be uncastable in Hollywood.
